Hidden Mickeys
Hello, readers! Today we are releasing our introductory article on hidden mickeys.
A hidden mickey is a representation of Mickey Mouse, which can be found in Disney parks, resorts, films and other media such as books or publications.
Hidden mickeys are meant to be subtle Disney Easter eggs, commonly found in the form of a ‘Classic Mickey’ (three conjoined circles forming a traditional mickey shape).
The mickeys may be painted, made up of objects, or be references such as someone wearing Mickey Mouse Club ears in a painting. Hidden mickeys can take on many sizes and forms.
Hidden Mickey’s in Film
Hidden mickeys have been found in Disney films as early as Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1928). Walt Disney loved placing Easter Eggs in his films, long before the term ‘Easter Egg’ was widely used.
Hidden Mickeys in the Parks
Walt Disney Imagineering, and magic-making Disney Cast Members, have continued the tradition of hidden mickeys by placing them in the Disney parks and resorts.
Subtle, and not so subtle, hidden mickeys can be found throughout the Disney Parks. This hidden mickey can be found outside the Sportsman’s Shoppe at Epcot’s UK pavilion.
At the time Disney-MGM Studios was built, its courtyard leading from Hollywood Blvd to the Chinese Theatre was the largest hidden mickey on Walt Disney World property.
Hidden Mickeys in the Resorts
Hidden mickeys can also be found in details throughout the Disney resorts.
Hidden Mickeys on Property
Larger (and smaller) hidden mickeys can be found on Disney Property at large.
Easter Eggs Hidden in the Parks
Some people referred to Easter Eggs, insider references to other Disney films or intellectual property, found on Disney property as hidden mickeys. These Easter Eggs are also fun to look for in the parks, resorts and other films.
Ariel can be seen in the ‘Mermaid Lagoon’ scene found in the Peter Pan’s Flight attraction in Disneyland and Walt Disney World. This is an Easter Egg allusion to the 1989 Disney film, The Little Mermaid.
The number code A113 is an Easter Egg found in all Disney/Pixar films. "A113" is an animator's reference to a classroom number at the California Institute of the Arts, where many of Pixar’s animators got their start.
