Un Poco Loco
Welcome back, Disney fans! We are kicking off the first week in November with Coco and Dia de los Muertos trivia. Dia de los Muertos is traditionally celebrated on the evening of November 1st, leading into the morning of November 2nd. In Mexican and Latinx culture, it is a holiday in which family gathers together to celebrate and remember loved ones who have passed away.
These celebrations can be lighthearted, as celebrants remember funny events and anecdotes about the departed. It is more so a holiday of joyful celebration rather than mourning.
“I have a dimple on this side, but not on this side. Dimple. No dimple. Dimple. No dimple…”
Miguel, Coco 2017
It is easy to feel “Un Poco Loco” as we head into the busy holiday season filled with decorating, shopping and celebrating. It is important to take a moment to slow down, and remember the holidays are about celebrating the love of family, and giving thanks for each other. As we start planning the Thanksgiving holiday, it is easy to get wrapped up in buying expensive gifts and planning parties. The real gift is in the time we spend with one another, and remembering our loved ones.
It is in this spirit we kick off the holiday season. If you haven’t had the opportunity to watch Pixar’s Coco (2017), it is a wonderful film to watch with your family.
“Say that I'm crazy or call me a fool
But last night it seemed that I dreamed about you
When I opened my mouth what came out was a song
And you knew every word and we all sang alongTo a melody played on the strings of our souls
And a rhythm that rattled us down to the bone
Our love for each other will live on forever
In every beat of my proud corazón
Our love for each other will live on forever
In every beat of my proud corazón.”Lyrics to Proud Corazón from Coco (2017)
